Padmashri Saranavan is an LGBTQI+ activist and the co-founder of QueeriousBits, a support group for the queer community on campus. She talks about their vision of increasing inclusivity and creating safe spaces for every student. She identifies as bisexual and takes us through what identity issues look like for a student in India. She explores how one must tackle heteronormativity, queerphobia and patriarchy before embracing your authentic self completely and brings into focus the importance of internal acceptance. Her journey of self-acceptance and battle with identity as a proud queer woman is a source of inspiration for anyone struggling with accepting themselves! Padmashri Saravanan was a speaker at our informal event “TEDxpressions” where she took us through her coming out story and her strong views on gender orientation and choice. At the mere age of 19, she is an LGBTQ+ activist and one of the co-founders of “Queerious BITS”, an LGBTQ+ support group that helps the students of BITS voice their opinions without any judgment. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
