Through his exploration of third-party access to highly-specific geolocation data in the battle against COVID-19, Rhythm Garg delves into the nuanced dynamic between individual rights and the common good. He argues that even though unrestricted analysis of our personal information today can lead to profiling of our distinctive lifestyles in the future, data-driven insights to combat the spread of this disease are not mutually exclusive with preventive measures to ensure our data is used for the right purposes. When this talk was live-streamed, Rhythm Garg was a high school senior at the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (TAMS). He will be attending Stanford University this Fall (assuming school starts by then!) to study computer science. Having acquired a strong background in STEM through science fairs, math competitions, and hackathons in high school, Rhythm is hoping to help innovate in the tech industry and push forth the cutting-edge. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
