While humanity is grappling with problems of unemployment, endemic poverty, pollution, waste, etc., the systems that exist in living nature have zero waste, zero pollution and nothing akin to a crisis of ‘unemployment’ (besides humanity)! The systems in living nature have evolved over a period of 3.8 billion years and hence are time tested solutions that we can learn from to come up with sustainable solutions while minimizing the risk of unintended consequences.
This talk introduces ‘Biomimicry’ – an emerging discipline that helps us translate the systems and processes that work so well in living nature into usable solutions for humanity’s challenges. The speaker makes a case that humanity needs a new ‘imagination’ and that Biomimicry can help humanity create a beautiful, bountiful & blissful future. The talk then explores what we can learn from nature about procurement, design, manufacturing, and waste management, to improve our systems.

Prashant along with Seema Anand (Co-founder of the Biomimicry India), has conducted Biomimicry workshops for Engineering colleges, Business colleges, Design colleges, Arts & Science colleges, Corporations, K12 schools, multidisciplinary cohorts and ‘open to all’ groups and has successfully demonstrated Biomimicry as a discipline that can be taught across disciplines, age groups and integrated disciplinary formats. As of November 2019, Biomimicry India had taken Biomimicry to more than 25,000 people through various media platforms.
Prashant prefers to call himself an amateur researcher of issues related to sustainable happiness and bliss. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
