Since the brutal assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia in October 2017, Petra Caruana’s perception of her country changed overnight. It also had a huge impact on her as a person. She became an activist for truth and justice in a bid to fight rampant corruption in Malta. Little has changed since the horrific event, however, this hasn’t deterred petra and her fellow activists. In this talk, she discusses how draining it can be to fight for change in an unchanging situation. She explains the importance of perseverance and how remaining active in the fight for justice is paramount to obtain change. Petra Caruana is a 21-year-old student who comes from the island of Malta. Since the assassination of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia in 2017, Petra has become an activist for truth and justice in Malta. As a young student, she always enjoyed learning languages, literature and the arts. She attended drama lessons which over the years had transformed her from a shy, reserved girl to a confident public speaker. Petra is currently in her final year reading for a BSc in communications science at the University of Twente. She wishes to pursue a career in research.
