Nikolas Cruz pleaded guilty to 17 counts of first-degree murder on Wednesday for a 2018 shooting spree in which he killed 14 students and three staff members at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, with his legal team hoping that showing contrition will help spare him from the death penalty.
