Liz Gostev reflects on the way that people interact with their environment and with people around them in increasingly complex global networks. Many are dissociated from seemingly unrelated consequences of their purchases, such as the climate crisis and exploitation of land and people. Moreover, consumer dissociation contributes to lack of knowledge about how their products were made, and the impact that they have once they are considered “waste”. Liz is a Geography and International Relations major, interested in the relationship between land and people. In her talk she will address the complexity of a consumer lifestyle and its implications through a critical lens. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
