In this talk, Julia King argues for a radical shift in the way we think about human waste and sanitation. Using her work in India as a baseline, she will bring issues of infrastructure away from the seclusion of policy and engineering into the more open daylight of architecture, design, and urban planning, arguing that basic infrastructure is at the forefront of our experience of inequality. Julia is a research fellow at LSE Cities and a design practitioner. She teaches and works on sanitation and housing in the context of rapid urbanisation. She has previously worked towards sanitation and housing improvements for marginalized communities in Delhi and has also focused on this area in the UK. She aims to place these infrastructures at the forefront of the fight against inequality and the drive for social justice. She has won numerous awards for her work including Emerging Woman Architect of the Year. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
