Matt Brisbin has been a teacher at McMinnville High School in McMinnville, Oregon for fourteen years. In 2018, he decided to fundamentally change the way he used grades in the classroom: he threw them out altogether. Matt Brisbin has worked for the last fourteen years as an English teacher at McMinnville High School in McMinnville, Oregon. He has also worked for the College Board for the past three years scoring student essays as a reader for the AP Literature and Composition Exam. He is a regular contributor to the APLitHelp and #teachlivingpoets blogs. He was also a co-author of the Instructor’s Guide to the high school edition of the 2019 Norton Literature Anthology. Matt has implemented a «gradeless» system in his classes for the past two years and hopes to continue encouraging more teachers to do the same. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
