Yoselin Surella Sanchez shares her transformational journey as «The Rose That Grew from Concrete» on the streets of Compton. Yoselin gets vulnerable as she shares different stages of her life, the realities she faced, how she coped, and overcame. She hopes to motivate individuals to rise up and overcome their mental health challenges and adversity through self-love and community care. With her story, she wants to encourage you to keep swimming and defy the odds because the world is better with us in it!
Yoselin is a first-generation multi-faceted millennial who loves to serve and pay it forward. Yoselin is also a dedicated and passionate community leader who uses her the power to change the narrative of the world-famous city of Compton. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with a concentration on Deviance and Social Control from California State University, Long Beach. She is currently, serving as the President for Compton’s 4th District Youth Leadership Council. Most recently, Yoselin has decided to pursue a Masters in Public Policy, so that she can further effect change in inner-city communities such as Compton. As a philanthropist, she has served her community through food banks, clean-ups, feeding the homeless, tutoring the youth, and even campaigning for local/state representatives. One of her achievements is holding the title as Miss Compton People’s Choice. Her life’s mission is to serve others through «Pay It Forward.” Yoselin loves rollerblading by the beach, going hiking, and spending quality time with loved ones and her husky Nova.
