Cassandra imagines a different way of conceiving the future habitability of Earth. It departs from the existing frameworks of scenario planning, which governmental and corporate entities use to strategize in the face of the unfolding climate change. It addresses the climate narratives that are written before climate projections and after climate modelling.

Instead of imagining the future as a social construct which presumes a linear trajectory from the present towards an abstract vector somewhere beyond our familiar experiences, Cassandra focuses on how the reality of past, present and future climates is already being shaped and rewritten by the sensing and modelling apparatus(es) in operation right now. It acknowledges the agency of technologies that translate the material reality of Earth’s ecosystems into approximate representations of itself and recursively shape it in their image.

When time is conceptualized as a knot of entangled agencies, stories that blend fact with fiction — the technical with the poetic, the anecdotal with the critical — emerge as navigation devices…
