An other, external space where waste goes to is a psychotic delusion of the human imagination. This concept of waste as an externality is a problematic narrative that has been perpetuated throughout history and must now be reimagined.
Daleko — a spatial and temporal reference to distant imaginaries, both far away and in the future — is a research and design speculation on the role of waste in The Terraforming project of a planetary plan for a viable future. Its focus is not on waste itself as discarded products or objects but on the concept of waste as matter that is valuable to the planet’s metabolism in deep-time.
Daleko is a common future world that reimagines the concept of waste over deeper time scales and expanded frames of value by carefully dissolving the concept of externality. The world is composed of nine science-fiction narratives that are centred around sites of obsolescence in the Russian Territory, told from the future. The sites and stories reveal various, detailed perspectives of an interconnected future.
