The Wayzata girls hockey team saw its season come to a close tonight with a 3-2 double overtime loss to Maple Grove in the section 6AA quarterfinals.

Despite coming in as major underdogs as the number seven seed, the Trojans held two leads in the game at 1-0 and 2-1. Junior Jenny Saxon scored both goals for the Trojans. Her third period goal came with 8:24 remaining in the game on an assist from senior Kate Loberg-Sonderup.

The Trojans held the 2-1 lead for just over four minutes until Maple Grove’s Casey Hirsch scored the game-tying goal with 4:15 remaining in regulation.

After a scoreless first overtime, the Crimson ended the Trojans’ upset bid when Lauren Moe scored with 1:38 remaining in the second overtime.

The loss was the 12th straight for the Trojans as they finished the season with a final record of 6-19-1. It was the last game in a Wayzata uniform for four seniors including Loberg-Sonderup, Alison Umland, Courtney Smith, and Shelby Rasmussen.
