I will be sharing my journey from having a utopian perception of society where different sexual orientations and gender identities are well-accepted to learning about and understanding the nuanced struggles the LGBT+ community actually faces. Furthermore, I will explore the importance of hearing different LGBT+-related stories and perspectives to increase the tolerance of LGBT+ communities across various cultural backgrounds. Grace Ma reflects on her journey from initially perceiving the LGBT+ community as already well-accepted by society to understanding the struggles that this community is still currently facing. She shares her opinions on how activists and supporters of the LGBT+ community could continue the progression of the LGBT+ movement and increase acceptance throughout the globe. Grace is a member of the school’s Gender and Sexuality Alliance and has participated in the Hong Kong Pride Parade. She is a strong believer of equality and human rights. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
